Swan’s to the First Division 1981
In 1981 Swansea City Football Club was to achieve the amazing feat of getting to the First Division in only three seasons. In 1978 Swansea City Football Club was in serious financial trouble and almost bankrupt. The club was then put under the management of John Toshack and the Chairmanship of Malcolm Struel and under their control, the Swans were to achieve something very special. Between 1978 and 1981 in a matter of only three seasons, the Swans went from the fourth division up to the first division, this was the first time that this had been achieved by any football club. In 2021 celebrations were held for the anniversary of this incredible achievement. The painting depicts the squad and celebrates this incredible and historical feat.
